The recent spate of attacks on the judges of the Apex court by lawmakers with tainted track record is alarming. The attack on the judicial system is an affront on the pillars of democracy. When politicians with criminal background walk through the corridors of power, the institution that safeguards individual’s liberty, equality and justice is under threat. The recent comments by the honorable Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh high court, whether rule of law exists in the sunshine state is a grim reminder of the lawlessness in the state. The brutal oppression of women in Amaravati, Doctors who expressed concern over the COVID crisis preparedness, Dalit’s who raised their voice against injustice is unfathomable. The summoning of DGP to the court on three occasions is unprecedented. What is appalling is the audacity of the lawmakers to berate the Judges in social media after a judgment against the government.
In the past 16 months the AP government has been at the receiving end from the courts on several controversial decisions made by the rulers. When the new government that came to power set the tone with the destruction of Amaravati and institutions built by the predecessor the courts stepped in. The decision to create three capitals was malicious and a ploy to destroy Amaravati. When the constitutional custodian stepped in to safeguard the rights of the farmers who sacrificed their livelihood to build a world-class capital that was promised, the rulers were not amused. When the netas decided to get away with the Telugu medium in schools, the courts reminded them of the constitutional obligation to protect the identity, culture and the very soul of the people of the Telugu state. The Supreme Court reinstated a constitutional figure when the rulers challenged his very existence. With every unconstitutional legislation annulled by the courts, the vindictive netas who feel that their agenda and very existence are threatened chose to take it head-on. An attack on the judiciary is an attack on the constitution and an affront on democracy.
As the dark clouds of chaos and anarchy loom over the sunshine state, the young, brilliant and fearless daughters and sons have emerged to shoulder the mantle of liberty, equality, and justice enshrined in the constitution. They have taken a vow to reinstate the Dharma of the land and steer the state in the path of peace, progress, and prosperity. There shall rise very soon from the sacred land Amaravati, one of the greatest cities on the face of this planet.
